It’s 800 years since Magna Carta was sealed by King John at Runnymede, but what does the iconic document stand for in 2015?

This Saturday, head to the Free Word Centre in Clerkenwell for the Alternative Magna Carta Festival, where the likes of Paul Mason, Zoe Williams, Suzanne Moore, Keir Starmer QC MP, Nick Cohen and Bob and Roberta Smith will be exploring what Magna Carta means today.

The festival spills over into the Betsey Trotwood, and 119 Farringdon Road. Hear Cartoonist Martin Rowson on the history of political satire, or Niamh Shields (Eat Like A Girl), Pete Brown and Ben Rogers discussing food, freedom and identity.

You can make your own zine – alongside Miki Berenyi and Joe England, then see Tim Wells stand up and spit it out. Rhian Jones, Kieran Yates and Andrew Mueller will be chatting about pop music, protest and politics – or join Scott Wood for tour of the rude, rebellious and rotten history of Smithfield and Clerkenwell.

Full details of the day, including the programme can be found at alternativemagnacarta.org.uk
