The Kitschies present… Beukes, Miéville and Ness
All three winners of The Kitschies’ Red Tentacle, together for the first time. South Africa’s Lauren Beukes (Zoo City) joins China Miéville (The City & The City) and Patrick Ness (A Monster Calls). The three will be in conversation about the legacy and social responsibility of science fiction and fantasy and its role in social change.
The event includes readings and a panel discussion, followed by signings and a drinks reception with The Kraken Rum. The evening is hosted by The Kitschies’ Anne C. Perry and Jared Shurin.
Lauren Beukes, China Miéville and Patrick Ness
China Miéville lives and works in London. He won The Kitschies in 2009 for The City & The City. Amongst many other achievements and awards, he is the only three-time winner of the prestigious Arthur C. Clarke Award. His latest novel is Railsea.
Lauren Beukes is an author, scriptwriter and comics writer. Her novel, Zoo City won the 2010 Arthur C Clarke Award and The Kitschies’ Red Tentacle. Her new novel, The Shining Girls, about a time-travelling serial killer is due out in 2013.
Patrick Ness has written six books, including The Chaos Walking trilogy and A Monster Calls, which won the 2011 Red Tentacle and the Carnegie Medal. His other prizes include a second Carnegie Medal (for Monsters of Men), the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize and the Galaxy Book Award.
