Women’s Unheard Voices: Who is Listening?

Upcoming Event

A fundraising evening of debate and performance, exploring the theme of Women’s Unheard Voices

Ticket: £30 - £100

The Literary Consultancy is proud to host The Maya Centre for a fundraising evening of debate and performance, exploring the theme of ‘Women’s Unheard Voices: Who is Listening?

You are invited to participate in this engaging debate on the 12th October 2017, chaired by renowned journalist and broadcaster Melissa Benn, with the full panel line-up to be announced soon. Melissa is the author of 8 books, a prominent campaigner, and proud patron of The Maya Centre.

The event is also a cause for celebration, marking thirty-three years of The Maya Centre’s unique work, providing free counselling to vulnerable women in Islington. The evening will also pay special tribute to Rebecca Swift, co-founder of TLC, who sadly passed away in April 2017. Rebecca was a loyal friend and trustee of The Maya Centre for 10 years up until the end of 2015.

Rebecca’s work with The Maya Centre was underpinned by her commitment to enable women to tell their stories – a commitment at the core of her thinking when conceiving of the idea for TLC whilst working as an editor at Virago Press in the 1990’s. She cared especially about good quality counselling for the women in desperate need of being heard and psychological healing.

Ticket donations for this event go directly toward supporting The Maya Centre’s essential work providing psychological support to vulnerable women who’ve experienced trauma from gender based violence, physical abuse or childhood sexual abuse and harmful traditional practices resulting in serious mental health issues.
